"Finally solved it, it's all to do with setting up an audio session and setting up
the category for it (e.g. ambient). This then allows you to use OpenAL to play
sound effects without interrupting the iPod music."

Can i programatically check that iPhone is in Silent Mode or Ring mode?

"If you play sounds using the SoundEffect.h and .m found in BubbleLevel for
instance then those sound will be affected by the ringtone volume and mute...
If the users phone is in Silen Mode those sounds will be muted as well..."

SO - Are there any legal and royalty-free sound libraries to get so-
unds for iPhone applications?

so - How do I programmatically play an MP3 on an iPhone?

SO - Checking earphones connected to device programmatically?
